Description

Crispy, sweet, and spicy General Tso’s chicken made quickly in an air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • cut into 1‑inch bite‑size pieces
  • 3 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp low‑sodium soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger
  • grated
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 Tbsp water (slurry)
  • 2 Tbsp sliced green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional
  • for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss the chicken pieces with 3 Tbsp cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Drizzle 1 Tbsp vegetable oil over the chicken and stir to create a thin, glossy layer that will help the air fryer crisp the surface.,Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  3. Arrange the coated chicken in a single layer in the basket, making sure pieces do not overlap.
  4. Cook for 8 minutes, then shake the basket or flip the pieces and continue cooking for another 4‑5 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).,While the chicken cooks, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes, and broth in a small saucepan.
  5. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.,Stir the cornstarch‑water slurry into the simmering sauce.
  6. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 2‑3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat.,Transfer the cooked chicken to a large mixing bowl.
  8. Pour the thickened sauce over the chicken and toss gently until every piece is fully coated.
  9. Let the chicken sit for 2 minutes so the glaze adheres.,Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired.
